National Conference & ATCC 2020
A statement from the Board of Directors:
Over the past few weeks, we have been closely monitoring and evaluating the situation around COVID-19 (Coronavirus) to ensure we are taking the necessary measures to protect the health and wellbeing of attendees at the Arboriculture Australia National Conference in May.
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our community, so we have made the difficult decision to postpone the National Conference. After discussion with the RACV Royal Pines Resort, the conference will be run at the same venue in May 2021 (please see updated conference schedule below). This decision will ensure that we are able to offer a world-class networking and educational event, whilst protecting our community, and conserving our limited member funds.
We apologise to anyone affected by this postponement, and we ask for your ongoing understanding and support during this challenging time for our association and for our industry.
What does this mean if I have registered already?
After negotiations with RACV Royal Pines, we have been able to postpone our conference to the following year at the same venue and rates. This means that registrations for the current conference can be retained at no additional cost and will still be valid for the event in 2021. Given the likely increase in event pricing in the coming years, this is a fantastic outcome for attendees who will attend the postponed conference when it occurs in May next year. All registrations and bookings received to date will be retained, and will be automatically credited to the rescheduled event.
We understand that some of our community may have existing commitments for that period, and would prefer to obtain a refund for their registration. For those of you who cannot make it next year, please can you complete the Refund Request Form and send via post or email to our office (contact details provided below) for refund of your booking. Please note that:
- A booking fee has been applied to each registration by Trybooking (the ticketing platform that we used for this event). We regret that we are unable to either recover or refund this booking fee. We will not use this ticketing platform for future events. All refunds will have the Trybooking fee (2.5% plus 50 cents per ticket item) deducted.
- Any bookings not made through the Arboriculture Australia service must be recovered directly from the company or service provider. For example, refunds for flights or other bookings must be made through the venue or company with whom the booking was made. We regret that Arboriculture Australia is not able to assist or mediate in this process. Please note that the revised booking should allow flights and other bookings to be rescheduled if necessary, for the new conference dates.
For those seeking a refund, we will endeavour to process this as quickly as possible as we understand the inconvenience that this will cause. We do however ask for your patience and understanding with any delay, as our volunteers and staff will be under a lot of pressure as our own businesses and lives are also disrupted. All refund requests must be received by end of April 2020 to be actioned, after which time any remaining registrations still held by the association will be credited to the postponed conference in May 2021.

What does this mean for ATCC competitors?
In line with many of the other ITCC-style events scheduled around the world, the 2020 ATCC will not take place in May. The Practicing Arborist Committee (PAC) are exploring options for running the event at a later date, however as the extent and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet known, we are not yet able to commit to an event this year.
The PAC will directly contact competitors as soon as possible. If you have any urgent questions regarding the competition, please contact PAC at PAC@arboriculture.org.au, however please be patient with our team of volunteers as they explore these options. PAC will also make a general announcement regarding the competition as soon as any developments ensue.
What does this mean for CEUs?
All Continuing Education Unit requirements for retention of registered membership or licence categories will be waived for 2020. Arboriculture Australia is exploring options for offering webinars or remote workshops to continue providing educational content later in the year if the current Covid-19 restrictions continue. Registered Members of all categories, and Tier 1 Licence holders, will not require any CEUs to retain these membership types for 2021.
