Job overview

Arborists / EWP Operators

The successful candidate will be highly proficient in all aspects of Tree Surgery and ideally (but not essential) possess a qualification in Arboriculture (Cert 3) or equivalent.

There is real potential for those who display strong leadership qualities and focus on safety, to run their own teams.

The below qualifications would be highly advantageous:

  • High Risk EWP Licence
  • Chainsaw Ticket
  • Cert 3 in Arboriculture
  • Wood Chipper Ticket
  • Current Manual Drivers Licence - Essential
  • White Card - Essential
  • Covid19 Vaccination Certificate - Essential (as per WA Govt Mandate)
  • Police Clearance - Essential

 

Grounds Personnel

Previous experience in the Tree Industry is highly desirable, however, on the job training will be provided.

The below qualifications would be highly advantageous:

  • Wood Chipper Ticket
  • Current Manual Drivers Licence - Essential
  • MR Truck Licence
  • White Card - Essential
  • Covid19 Vaccination Certificate - Essential (as per WA Govt Mandate)
  • Police Clearance - Essential

The Tree Services division of Thomas Contracting Services is a reputable West Australian Arboricultural business that is committed to providing a high quality, safe and professional tree removal and pruning service to Civil, Commercial, Local Government and Domestic tree industry in WA.

For over 20 Years Thomas Contracting has been providing high quality outcomes to the bulk vegetation clearing, mulching and earthmoving Industry and, due to continued expansion of our Tree Services Division, we are now seeking applications to fill the positions of Arborists / EWP cutters and ground crew labourers.

Any level of prior experience will be considered for the Arborist / EWP Operator positions and prior experience is highly advantageous but not essential for Wood Chipper Operators / Labourers.

Upon successful completion of a probationary period full time employment with ongoing industry training will be offered to the right applicants.

Duties

Arborists / EWP Operators

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure contract works are performed to the required safety and quality standards, through both scheduled and non-scheduled site checks to ensure compliance with policies & procedures
  • Proactively build and maintain a positive work culture
  • Undertake Arboricultural Duties in accordance with AS4373-2007 – Pruning of Amenity Trees
  • Operate & Maintain Plant & Equipment
  • Maintaining Company Fleet (vehicles & machinery) by way of daily pre-starts and weekly cleaning;
  • Identify & perform minor maintenance on small plant such as chainsaw sharpening, cleaning air filters, making new chains etc.
  • Identify and perform minor maintenance requirements on wood chippers such as changing blades, adjusting anvil, cleaning air filter etc;
  • Work within all Company and Client HSEQ Policies & Procedures and in accordance with OH&S Regulations and appropriate laws.

 

Grounds Personnel

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Proactively build and maintain a positive work culture
  • Liaising with Project Manager, Site Supervisor, Arborists and Senior Grounds Person over daily activities;
  • Assisting with setting up the site to ensure the safety of all personnel, visitors and public are kept safe;
  • Undertake ground work to clear all pruning refuse safely and efficiently;
  • Tidying up of worksites during and following completion of work activities – to an extremely high standard:
  • Operate & Maintain Plant & Equipment including, but not limited to:
    • Trucks
    • Chippers
    • Truck Mount EWP’s
    • Stump Grinders
    • Skid Steers & Track Loaders
    • Chainsaws, Polesaws, Hedge trimmers etc
  • Maintaining Company Fleet (vehicles & machinery) by way of daily pre-starts and weekly cleaning;
  • Identify & perform minor maintenance on small plant such as chainsaw sharpening, cleaning air filters, making new chains etc.
  • Identify and perform minor maintenance requirements on wood chippers such as changing blades, adjusting anvil, cleaning air filter etc;
